Sous Chef

Some professional experience is required for this position.

We are seeking a passionate, creative and detail oriented individual to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in all areas of the kitchen; including prep, inventory, recipe development, and most importantly- dinner service. Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment are essential, as this is not a typical kitchen structure.  Must feel comfortable working in small spaces.

This is a part-time position. Candidate must be available to work two to three shifts a week, including Friday and/or Saturday nights. Scheduling is flexible and preferences will be discussed during the hiring process. This position will report to our head chef.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepping, stocking, and running dinner service primarily independently 
  • Ensuring the kitchen operates in a timely manner that meets consistency standards
  • Writing detailed prep lists and thoroughly communicating needs for the following service
  • Providing strong attention to detail with a focus on presentation of dishes
  • Upholding a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verifying all products are properly organized for quality assurance
  • Consistent and accurate communication with front of house
  • Assisting the head chef in maintaining inventory par levels
  • Maintain overall kitchen cleanliness, including washing dishes and regularly sanitizing equipment and surfaces

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Kitchen management or administrative experience is an asset
  • Familiarity with kitchen safety regulations, Food Handler’s certification is an asset (will be required within 1 month of employment).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be available on evenings & weekends
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift kitchen equipment, and work in a high-pressure kitchen environment
