Assistant Sommelier/Server

Some professional experience is required for this position.

We are hiring an assistant sommelier/server. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of service experience and additional experience working with wine in some capacity. If you love wine, love learning about wine and you’ve worked in a wine focused restaurant, a wine agency, a winery, or the LCBO we’d love to hear from you. 

In short, the more experience with wine, the better; however, we are willing to train you if you have the passion and a good foundation of the basics. Formal wine education or certifications would be an asset but are not required. Additional knowledge of spirits, cocktails, beer and cider would also be advantageous.

This is a part-time position with room for growth. Candidate must be available to work two to four shifts a week, including Friday and Saturday nights, and be comfortable working late hours. An administrative shift will also be expected. Schedule preferences will be discussed during the hiring process. Smart Serve certification is required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving tables. Taking and serving food and drink orders.
  • Welcoming and engaging customers, and making recommendations based on guest preferences.
  • Building relationships with regulars.
  • Oversight of wine service on the floor, encourage wine sales and uphold service standards. 
  • Maintenance, organization and inventory of the wine cellar.
  • Maintenance of our physical wine list and POS.
  • Management of our wines by the glass (ie. selection, storage). 
  • Assisting with weekly wine features with consideration for surplus products. 
  • General bottle shop maintenance. Assisting customers with retail sales. Keeping shelves stocked and clean.
  • Conducting occasional staff tastings/training.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of special wine related events.
  • Staying up to date on trends in wine.
  • Knowledge of our cocktail, beer, cider and spirits list.
  • Setting and clearing tables. Assisting other servers when needed. 
  • Opening, closing and side duties include but are not limited to:
    • Assisting with keeping kitchen clean 
    • Assisting with keeping bathrooms tidy, garbage emptied.
    • Assisting with keeping storage and common areas clean, assist with recycle, cardboard, etc as needed.
    • Assisting with basic food preparation ie. snacks served after kitchen closes.
